We live in a world where people are pressured to find their calling and to find it quickly. But funny enough, I think your calling most of the time will find you.
My name is Eduard Reyes and I am an actor, model, dancer, real estate agent, brother, friend, and son. I name all of these because I believe you can have multiple callings. My biggest passion is the entertainment industry. But I believe I’m still called to be a light through real estate. I believe I’m called to be a good son to my parents. I believe I’m called to be a good brother to my sisters. And most importantly, I believe I’m called to be a good friend to my friends and to complete strangers.
Life has a way of rushing you and telling you that you have to be at a certain point at a certain age. I don’t believe in that. I believe we’re all on a journey to be the best version of ourselves and to help encourage those we encounter along the way.
So how does one stay motivated though? How does one avoid the pressure?
Well, it’s easier than you think. From my experience, I believe that the best way to not feel the pressure of society is to stay focused.
Focused on your own journey instead of your neighbors. We need to have goals and we need to keep our head down and work on those goals.
Part of the reason we often feel the pressure is because we see other people succeeding in the field we want to be in. Perhaps they started at the same time as us yet they’re having more success. As soon as you make that comparison you lose. You lose focus, you lose motivation, and you lose hope.
The most important thing you need to remember is that there is multiple pathways to get to where you want to be. Something that worked for your neighbor may never work for you. But something that works for you will never work for them.
It’s not a competition. It’s not a race. We aren’t here to see who gets to the finish line first. Because if you really think about it, where is the finish line? There is no such thing.
To whoever is reading this, let me remind you, it’s ok. It’s ok you haven’t found your passion. It’s ok if you have but haven’t started. It’s ok to be lost.
Let me be the one to remind you that you can start exactly where you are as you are. You don’t need to be smarter, or wealthier, or richer, or more sophisticated. You have all the qualities you need right now to be the successful person you want to be. All you need to do is start.
For those of you that have yet to figure out your calling, try multiple things. Try new stuff to see if you like it or if you dislike it and take one day at a time. For those of you who know what direction you want to go in, come up with monthly goals of how you want to get there and work at that.
I’m still learning myself. I’m still growing. I’m still stumbling. I’m still falling. But I know exactly where I want to be and I know exactly who I want to be. People are going to try and tell you that you’re behind on life. Or that your dreams are too big. But remember that we’re not here to live out other people’s dreams. We’re here to live our own. Stay focused
