The Wish List You Didn't Know You Needed
Like any gift, getting new gear is exciting. Maybe this holiday season you don't need a new camera or lens to further your photos and videos. Perhaps, it's the accessories that'll take your art to the next level. That being said, I've listed 5 items you may want to add to your wish list this holiday season.
1) Neutral Density(ND) filter
An ND filter is something you can attach to the front of your lens to reduce the amount of light entering your camera. This filter is often compared to a human wearing a pair of sunglasses. You may wonder why would you want to reduce light however? When playing with your three light sources (aperture, shutter speed, and ISO), an ND filter can assist you in getting the look you desire while still maintaining correct exposure.
For example, say you want your subject to be in focus with a shallow depth of field, but you are shooting outside during a bright sunny day. A low aperture will give you that shallow depth of field, but chances are the light from the intense sun will over expose your image/video. This is where the ND filter comes in to help neutralize it.
I use the K&F Concept ND Filter and it has withstood well and proven to be great quality!
2) External Hard Drive
If you're like me and shoot a lot of photos and videos, you're going to need an additional memory space to store all your digital files. Luckily external hard drives with 1TB storage can be around $50. It may sound like a lot at first, but this can come in handy once you begin to stock up on photos and videos.
3) Tripod
A tripod may be an obvious item to have for any photographer or videographer, but it's not always the item we ask for first. Do yourself a favor and invest in some stabilization! I use the Orion Tritech II field tripod with fluid head for video and photos. It's a great tripod for the price!
4) Cleaning Kit
We all know cameras are expensive, therefore it's important to take care of your gear. There are plenty of cleaning kits you can find online for cheap. Even just having a pen brush and microfiber cleaning clothes can go a long way.
5) Rain Cover
Similar to the last item, think about investing in a rain cover for your camera. Unfortunately weather isn't always cooperative when going on a shoot. If shooting outside, be sure to have something like this to keep your gear safe, but also be able to get the job done.
I hope this list has given you some inspiration as to what to purchase next in order to further improve your photo and video skills. Let me know in the comments section what camera accessories you think are most important to have!
